‘The Little Mermaid’: First Reactions from the Premiere

#TheLittleMermaid is the best Disney live-action adaptation to date. Halle Bailey IS Ariel. Major props to the sound effects team. Good changes, though one new song with too much autotune. Could watch this version’s Under the Sea all day, it was the highlight of the whole thing.

The 1989 Disney animated classic, directed by Rob Marshall, has been remade and revitalized with fresh updates. Alan Menken has returned to amplify his score and joins hands with Lin-Manuel Miranda to craft new, stunning lyrics. The new production includes four additional, blazing songs that are sure to captivate audiences everywhere.

Disney Movies Remake Business

Disney’s remake business has been a success story with box office revenues exceeding $1 billion for films like Beauty and the Beast (2017), Aladdin (2019), and The Lion King (2019). The trend continues with Rachel Zegler‘s upcoming performance in Snow White, while Lilo & Stitch is currently filming. Barry Jenkins is also taking on the Lion King prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King. All in all, Disney’s investments in remakes seem to be a financially viable strategy.
