It was established on July 10, 1997, by Frank Giustra, and has offices in Santa Monica, California and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The firm has a number of divisions in addition to its flagship Lionsgate Films branch, including Lionsgate Television and Lionsgate Interactive.
